Fall Brings Change: Knowing When It's Time for a New Season

November 2026 | Reflections With Hope
Fall has a way of reminding us that change is a natural part of life.
The days grow shorter, the air becomes cooler, and the trees begin releasing the leaves that once gave them life and beauty. There is something both peaceful and profound about watching nature make room for what comes next.
Maybe that's why, when the seasons change, we often find ourselves considering whether it's time to make a change of our own.
Sometimes change arrives unexpectedly. Circumstances shift, opportunities appear, or life nudges us in a direction we hadn't anticipated. Other times, we recognize that something needs to change, yet we drag our feet, hesitant to leave behind what has become comfortable and familiar.
And sometimes, whether we're ready or not, life catapults us into a new chapter.
Ideally, we would all approach change willingly, confidently, and on our own timetable. But life doesn't always work that way.
I've been thinking about this quite a bit lately.
Recently, I made a significant change in my professional life. It wasn't a decision I made lightly. I simply came to see that it was time for a new season of growth and opportunity.
What I've come to appreciate is that moving forward doesn't necessarily mean something was wrong with where you were.
Your time in a particular place may simply have run its course.
The relationships, lessons, and experiences you've gained remain valuable. They helped shape who you are today. But growth sometimes requires us to step beyond what is familiar and embrace what lies ahead.
Think about the trees in autumn. They don't hold on to their leaves just because those leaves served them well during spring and summer. They release them because the season has changed.
Perhaps we can learn something from that.
We don't always leave because something has turned sour or because we've become dissatisfied. Sometimes, there's simply a quiet realization that says, I believe there's something more for me to do. Something new for me to experience. Somewhere else I'm meant to grow.
The challenge is learning to recognize that voice—and having the courage to listen.
So how do we know when it's time?
I believe we begin by creating space for ourselves.
In a world filled with noise, opinions, obligations, and endless distractions, it's easy to lose touch with our own instincts. We become so busy responding to everything around us that we forget to listen to what's happening within us.
Take some time. Be by yourself. Reflect. Meditate, if that's your practice.
Ask yourself whether you're staying where you are because it continues to serve your purpose—or simply because it's familiar.
Then sit quietly with the answer.
You don't have to make every decision immediately. Not every change requires a dramatic departure. Often, the first step is simply acknowledging that you're ready for something different.
And when that realization comes, don't allow fear of the unfamiliar to automatically outweigh the possibilities ahead.
Change doesn't erase the value of what came before. It allows us to carry those experiences into something new.
As I embrace this next chapter, I'm grateful for the people, experiences, and opportunities that have brought me to this point. And I'm genuinely excited about what lies ahead.
Whether you're considering a career move, a personal transition, a new home, or simply a different direction in life, remember that every season has its purpose.
You can appreciate where you've been and still be ready to go somewhere new.
So, as the leaves fall and November invites us into a season of reflection, perhaps it's worth asking yourself:
What am I ready to release, and what am I ready to embrace?
Take your time. Listen to yourself. Trust what you've learned along the way.
And when the time is right, step into the change.
After all, there's always hope in a new beginning.
